Position Overview:

The Product Compliance  Analyst will manage, develop, and monitor Flexsteel’s product compliance programs for all divisions. Cross functional collaboration and communication between sourcing, quality, engineering, legal and operations to ensure all functional teams are provided with the necessary education and instruction related to the regulation and applicability to Flexsteel’s product lines.

 Duties and Responsibilites:

Product Compliance

  • Responsible for the research, comprehension of the regulation or law and its applicability to all product lines within Flexsteel’s businesses, and communication/ education to all functional teams as identified within GSC RACI.
  • Work with Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), American Home Furnishings Association (AHFA), Upholstered Furniture Action Counsel (UFAC), Federal Trade Commissions (FTC), State of California (Technical Bulletins and Senate Bills), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), UFAC, and other government agencies (OPA) as required to ensure continued compliance for all current regulations effected by the furniture industry.
  • Partners with Trade Compliance on the development of product compliance regulations related to products sourced from countries outside the U.S. (imports) or products being produced or shipped to countries outside the U.S. (exports).
  • Packaging & Product Labeling Compliance – develop guidelines and manage package and product labeling requirements based off product type, country of origin, country of export labeling, packaging & testing requirements, ISPM 15 HT, non-wood and hard wood packaging declarations, SB1019/ Flame Retardant, Proposition 65 and chemical of concern, TBB 117 2013/133, customer service labels, TSCA, CPSIA CFR 1303, URN law label, and other country or regulation specific requirements.
  • Random Sampling/Reasonable Testing Program – develop and manage program in compliance with CARB, CFR 1303, TB 117 2013, TB 133, Proposition 65, and Flame Retardant (FR) chemicals. Review program against new and changing regulations, change management as needed.
  • Manage and monitor individual product testing programs across all businesses for CARB, TSCA, CFR 1303, TB 117 2013, TB 133, Proposition 65, etc… align to Reasonable Testing Program.
  • URN Bedding License & Law Label Administration – Monthly monitoring of URN bedding license status, renewals (both FLX and Supplier) and new licenses required. Work with Asia Logistics team to collect and save updated licenses to B: Compliance folder, work with Asia Logistics team to complete license renewal forms for FLX managed factories and submit renewals w/payment to state to ensure continued compliance. Quarterly reminder to division managers & general (aligning with Social Compliance) to identify if new suppliers will be manufacturing upholstery.
  • Regulatory Compliance ‘Work Group’ Leader – Work with each division (Hospitality, Health care/Acute Care, Vehicle Seating, Commercial Office, Home Styles, Home Furnishings) to understand the various regulations that are applicable to their industry. Build a regulations & testing procedure that can be used at each site. Setup reoccurring audit to revisit regulation, product, or application changes.
  • Tip-Over/Anti-Tip Program – Work with Country Managers and cross-functional teams to make sure all product lines are in compliance with the most recent standards and best practices as outlined through the AHFA, ISTA, and ASTM. Align current standards with proper education, instruction, and supplier communication through Import to US SOP. Establish audit protocol.
  • TSCA Title VI Program – Work with Country Managers, domestic production facilities and vendors to ensure all product lines containing composite wood products are in compliance with TSCA Title VI emissions limits, TPC testing protocols, proper product and documentation labeling, and document retention requirements. Establish audit protocol.
  • Quarterly Compliance Newsletter – Provide education material as it relates to new, changed, or reminders within existing regulations, and industry current events.
  • Work with RACI team to identify research and execute new Regulatory Compliance Programs and develop communication & work groups for both internal & external customers to educate and train cause and effect of new industry regulations across all divisions of the corporation.

 Education and Experience Required:

Supply Chain Related Four (4) year college degree or equivalent work experience required

3-5 years of compliance related work experience is required

Experience in the furniture industry, product compliance testing, and/or research interpretation of government regulations preferred.

Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PPT experience required

SAP preferred but not required
