POSITION SUMMARY. The Psychology Program at Loras College announces a full-time tenure track position. The successful candidate will have expertise in Clinical/Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in health and should be able to teach a range of courses for the undergraduate major, including Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Research Methods and Statistics, as well as some of the following courses: Psychology of Stress, Positive Psychology, and Motivation and Emotion. Candidates should also demonstrate a willingness to teach in the general education curriculum at Loras, provide academic advising to students, and supervise undergraduate research.

Loras offers a master’s degree in Psychology with Clinical and general tracks. Graduates of the Clinical track pursue licensure as Clinical Mental Health Counselors and it is anticipated that a successful candidate with licensure will have an opportunity to teach clinical and other coursework in the master’s program. Course opportunities at the graduate level include Addictions, Physiological Psychology, Career Counseling, and Research and Program Evaluation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. A Ph.D. from an APA accredited program is required and clinical experience is highly desirable. It is preferred if prospective candidates have licensure or are license eligible as a Psychologist and demonstrate knowledge of and a willingness to communicate current trends in the field to students and a variety of other constituencies. Active involvement in professional organizations is also highly desirable. Candidates will be expected to support the mission of the College and respect the College's Catholic tradition. 

COMPENSATION. Commensurate with qualifications, education and experience. DIVISION OF TEACHER EDUCATION & BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES. The Division of Teacher Education & Behavioral Sciences consists of 19 full-time faculty members and offers majors in Criminal Justice, Education, Psychology, & Social Work.

THE COLLEGE. Founded in 1839, Loras College is a Catholic, four-year, coeducational, liberal arts institution that includes pre-professional and career preparation and is dedicated to high academic, ethical and moral standards. The student body consists of approximately 1,600 students, over 90 percent of whom are full-time undergraduates. The college is a wireless, laptop campus and there will be opportunity for developing technology-rich, interdisciplinary courses for the general education curriculum.

THE COMMUNITY. Loras College's 60-acre campus is located on one of Dubuque's highest bluffs, overlooking the Mississippi River at the junction of the states of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, about 3 hours west of Chicago. Dubuque's population is approximately 60,000 and its nineteenth century architecture is woven into limestone bluffs and provides a picturesque backdrop to the river landscape. Many residential and commercial areas have been designated as historical districts to preserve Dubuque's unique heritage. Its strong education base supports numerous cultural activities, and in addition, there are sporting events, shopping facilities, schools, and churches that are convenient to its residents. The climate has marked seasons with a comfortable summer, cool spring and fall, and a winter that encourages a variety of sports that have in recent years attracted a growing tourism industry.
