Assistant Professor of Software Engineering

The department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level to start on August 22, 2018.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely related field by August 1, 2018. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and teaching excellence. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Commitment to scholarly and professional activities is also required.

Employment is contingent upon verification of identity and work authorization as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Responsibilities:

The primary duty will be teaching undergraduate courses covering topics in programming, networking, security, software engineering and/or embedded systems. The department has three on-campus undergraduate programs in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science (Computer Technology) and Software Engineering and a collabrative online degree completion program in Applied Computing. Faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly and professional development activities that enhance teaching effectiveness and professional skills, and/or provide opportunities for students to engage in undergraduate research. In addition, faculty members advise students and participate in university/community service and outreach activities.

College/Department Information:

The College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (EMS) enrolls approximately 3,400 students in ABET-accredited BS degree programs in Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Mechanical and Software Engineering, and Engineering Physics and BS degrees in Mathematics, Broad Field Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Sustainable and Renewable Energy Systems. The College of EMS also participates in a statewide Collaborative Engineering Program that allows place-bound undergraduate students to complete their BS degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with minimal travel. In addition, the College has an online Master of Engineering program, which has been designated as a “Best Buy” in online education.

The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department has eight faculty and two instructors with an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 370 students.
