Assistant Professor - Electrical Engineering/Computer

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications to fill a tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor in electrical engineering specialized in computer engineering. The candidate is expected to start in August 2018.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Required Qualifications:

  • PhD to be completed before August 2018
  • Ability to teach introductory courses in electrical engineering
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Doctoral studies in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field
  • Ability to teach mid- and upper-level courses in computer engineering and/or embedded systems

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers
  • Teaching experience as the instructor of record in science or engineering courses
  • Experience teaching online or distance courses
  • Experience with real-time embedded programming, reconfigurable computing, high performance computing, and IIoT
  • Industrial design experience with computer systems


The primary responsibility will be to teach undergraduate courses that include laboratory sections and the successful candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting research and seeking extramural funding; developing curriculum; advising students; advising student organizations; participating in outreach including visits to industry and recruiting local students; and participating in department, college, and university service committees.  The applicant is expected to teach courses using alternative delivery methods including distance education. 

 Program Information:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) offers an ABET accredited electrical engineering major. The major has four emphasis areas:  Computer Engineering, Controls, Electronics/Communications, and Power/Energy. The Electrical Engineering program has ten tenure-track faculty members and one teaching academic staff and values hands-on learning where laboratories are an integral part of Electrical Engineering courses. The program has approximately 420 majors and graduates about 60 students per year. Majors from the program have one of the highest job placement rates, exceeding 90% in the past three years. The program enjoys a strong reputation with regional and national employers with global presence such as Cray, Subzero-Wolf, Extreme Engineering Solutions, Kimberly-Clark, Plexus, UTC, Rockwell Automation, John Deere, and Bemis. Opportunities exist for faculty-industry collaborations with these companies and others. The electrical engineering curriculum is also offered through collaborative program sites at UW-Fox Valley, UW-Sheboygan, and UW-Washington County.
